“If you ask me to describe myself I would say that I am an ecological artist.” CM
Manrique has been recognised in many countries for his art and also for his environmental work, winning the 1978 World Award for Ecology and Tourism. His dedication to the development of Lanzarote compatible with the preservation of its environment brought the island towards her Biosphere Reserve status. Sadly, in 1992, he was killed near the foundation in a car accident. Painter, sculptor, architect, landscape artist, urban designer and environmentalist…the talents of César Manrique and his dedication to the well being of Lanzarote, have enriched the island and its people.

“The subject matter of all my paintings has always been Lanzarote, but the theme is a universal one. I tend to use blacks and greys and a great deal of red which is closely related to fire and the volcanoes.” CM
Lanzarote has a unique and beatiful volcanic landscape
