Originally designed by César Manrique as his home, the foundation was built to blend concepts of modern design with traditional architecture, whilst being in harmony with the stream of petrified lava in which it stands.
His paintings, sculptures, ceramics, mural sketches, architectural designs and his personal collection of contemporary art are all on permanent display. The foundation is not only a museum which aims to advance the arts, but is an educational centre where students are taught about art, conservation and the environment; subjects close to Manrique’s heart.
