The islands artisans continue to preserve their culture by producing their crafts using traditional methods. The ceramics are made using the rudimentary techniques of their ancestors where the potter works without a wheel. Doña Doretea is one such potter who has continued the skills passed down to her from her mother and grandmother and whose children carry them on today. Other crafts to be found in the markets and craft shops are lacework, woven palm, wicker, straw baskets and the typical straw hats, carpentry and stone and brass work. The Museo del Campesino also has these crafts on display and for sale.
